A football match was scheduled between Argentina and Bolivia on September 29, 1973. One half of the Argentinian team traveled to Tilcara at 2500 meters above sea level to acclimate to the conditions, but the Argentinian Football Association “forgot” about them. They failed to receive payment for supplies, a hotel, or food and no one could find any information about the players’ stay in Tilcara. Therefore they were referred to as “The Ghost Team”.
